Apple iPhone/iPod touch Application iCRM General Description
The application iCRM uses local cache database. It helps iCRM to be more responsive due to elimination necessity of downloading all data from the MS CRM server each time.
The application iCRM shows data in a way almost similar to Microsoft Dynamics CRM web application. Users could browse the data through:
- thematic categories with system‘s and user‘s entities (Workplace, Marketing, Sales, etc.)
- list of entity records (filterable by user's and system filters)
- entity record detail which has standard view by form
- entity relationships
Search function is available wherever it is possible. It provides complex view to MS CRM data in a way user is used to. All information is closely connected to iPhone/iPod touch functionality so user is able to call contact or send an email direct from the application.
The application does not require any extension on Microsoft Dynamics CRM server configuration. iCRM provides access to data stored at MS CRM server through its standard web services. These web services must be necessarily accessible through Internet or mobile device must be connected through VPN to company network. User must have privilege to both web services.
User will just download iCRM from an App Store, fill out URL of company’s MS CRM server and login data, and user proceeds to use the application iCRM. When setting up the connection to the server make sure that you have entered a slash “/” after the company’s MS CRM server URL. The address must end with a slash, e.g. “http://MS-CRM-server.com/”.
Setup of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 for communication with Apple iPhone/iPod touch application iCRM
This part describes environment setup and system parameters for easy cooperation and communication between product Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 (MS CRM) and application iCRM. Fundamental prerequisites for successful operation of iCRM with MS CRM are correct installation and setup of MS CRM and all its subsystems (MS SQL Server, MS SQL Report Server, IIS, Active Directory, E-mail CRM router).
Following description is valid for all MS CRM editions – Workgroup, Professional and Enterprise.
User’s Security Roles
Each iCRM user has to be defined as standard CRM user. It means user is domain member, has enabled Active Directory account and MS CRM account. It is recommended to use e-mail access configuration of user’s MS CRM account with value “E-mail Router”.
At least one security role has to be assigned to MS CRM user in order to log in MS CRM. There is a set of predefined roles in MS CRM after its installation (Salesperson, CSR Manager, Marketing Professional etc.) and administrator can use one of them or create new own role definition with needed permissions. iCRM user has to have another security role (privileges) to be able to use whole standard functionality of MS CRM.
Recommended procedure is:
- Create new security role
- Open newly created role and click on tab “Customization”
- Activate following read privileges:
- Entity
- Attribute
- Relationship
- Save modified security role
- Assign created security role to user which needs to access MS CRM’s functionality and data through Apple iPhone/iPod touch and application iCRM
Network Communication
Users work with MS CRM mostly access server via intranet. External access (outside of enterprise network) to MS CRM can be made through VPN or Internet communication.
- VPN
The easiest way how to use the application iCRM with MS CRM server wherever the mobile internet connection is available. User establishes VPN on his/her device (Apple iPhone or iPod touch) with parameters obtained from company administration. User will probably need an IP address instead of domain name of MS CRM server.
When setting up the connection to the server make sure that you have entered a slash “/” after the company’s MS CRM server URL. The address must end with a slash, e.g. “http://MS-CRM-server.com/”.
